Brief
The first year of post-secondary education can be an overwhelming transition. In a new environment, students often struggle to find routine, community, and a sense of direction. These are important elements that are essential to a successful academic year.
The Adventist Christian Fellowship sought to create a composition notebook that would offer practical tips and encouragement for navigating both academics and faith. The publication needed to stand apart from conventional campus print materials while remaining approachable and engaging.
Challenge
How can a composition notebook present guidance and encouragement through a Christian perspective in a way that feels lighthearted, relatable, and visually engaging?
result
Inspired by Ned’s Declassified School Survival Guide, the notebook was designed as an interactive survival guide, pairing practical advice with playful visual elements. Stickers, marker-style typography, and cutout lettering were used throughout the layouts to reflect both the challenges and successes of first-year student life.
The guide was printed, translated into English and French, and distributed to universities and colleges across Ontario and Quebec. Copies were shared with students through campus-based, student-led ministries supported by the Adventist Christian Fellowship, extending the publication’s reach across multiple regions.
